Putridity – Greedy Gory Gluttony
Willowtip Records
Released 7 July 2023

Sometimes and EP is like a mini-album, quite lengthy with a number of tracks. Putridity, the Italian Brutal Death Metal band, have released a 5 track, 13 minute EP that is essentially a pre-cursor to their upcoming 4th album Morbid Ataraxi. This fact should immediately peak your interest.
It has been 8 years since their 3rd album was released and, since then, only founding Putrid Ciccio remains from the lineup that recorded Ignominious Atonement. It is fair to say that Greedy Gory Gluttony marks a new beginning for the band, and a short sharp blast of aggressively brutal death metal is a great way to begin.
The EP is a genuine taster. Of the 5 tracks on offer, 2 are previously released, 2 are brand new and the album closer is a cover. This is actually a slightly genius concept. old fans brought in with new tracks and new versions of classic Putridity, new fans brought in what is new material to them, encouraging reflections on the first 3 albums, and Cannibal Corpse fans attracted by a cover of ‘Ecstasy in Decay’, from the Death Metal legends 1999 album, ‘Bloodthirst’.
With no songs being any more than just a tickle over 3 minutes, you need to expect a full on aural assault. The shorter of the tracks are unfeasibly aggressive from the very first note. However, the 2
best tracks on the album are the slightly longer songs, the aforementioned cover and one of the new song, ‘Molten Mirrors of the Subjugated’.
In giving themselves just 30 seconds more, Putridity allow a proper introduction to the track, allowing it to develop without any compromise to the battering your faculties are getting. It is this song that gives hope for the upcoming album, however past experience would indicate that the new album will feature short, sharp aggression as well as the ever so slightly longer songs.
Although an enjoyable EP, once the new album is out, you will be unlikely to revisit Greedy Gory Gluttony. Which is a shame, because it is definitely worth multiple listens, especially due to the short run time.
