Úma is an album that is very well crafted, in that each track stands on its own merits, no songs blend together and they are all distinguishable from themselves. I am Low vary the pace of the tracks so that slow songs

follow quick, or heavier riffs.

However, towards the end of the album, the songs do tend to veer towards a slow opening before the track expands into itself. The title track of the album, ‘Úma’ is a slow, brooding song that spends almost 2 minutes building towards its 4 ½ minute run time. The track follows arguably the heaviest on the album, so this is a decent contracts that improves both songs.

It is the last few tracks that almost let the album down. It is not that they are bad, it is just that the high quality dips slightly. ‘Time’ is a slower song, with an intelligent solo that compliments the overall mood of the track. This is then followed by ‘Void’ and a 3 ½ minute instrumental that utterly disrupts the flow of the album. This interruption is then followed by the album closer, ‘Release’, a decent enough song that doesn’t quite repair the damage that the unnecessary instrumental provides.

The good thing is that this won’t completely affect your enjoyment of the album. There will be many listeners who adore the instrumental – this is the great thing about being a music lover, opinions! The pure and simple fact is that with Úma, I am Low have delivered their best release yet.
