Waste a Saint – Ravenous
All Good Clean Records
Released 1 Mar 2024

Ravenous is the 2nd album by Norwegian Stoner Rock outfit Waste a Saint. If you caught their debut, Hypercarnivore, then you will know what to expect, fuzzy riffs, tracks inspired by the likes of QoTSA and Wolfmother. What sets Waste a Saint apart from these bands is having a, quite outstanding, female vocalist.
Bogey Stefansdottir is the biggest reason to listen to this album. Only 8 tracks long an lasting a tickle over the 32 minute mark, Ravenous fairly rattles along and throughout each and every single song, the dominant force are the vocals. This is both a blessing and, whilst not a curse, also a disappointment, as the album never really seems to develop in the manner you feel it could.
The opening track, ‘Schizofrendia’ is very strong. A tight, fuzzy riff sits behind the dominant powerhouse vocals and hopes are high and Stefansdottir impresses immediately. The strong
start continues through track 2 and then we hit the 3rd song. Here, Waste a Saint open with a nice change in the intro – the album appears to be spreading its wings, then the vocals come in and it veers away from the good intro and settles into a mild form of ‘meh’. That said, there are superb gruff backing vocals in the track, again something that isn’t explored too much throughout the album.
Ravenous is by no means a poor album. It has listenable qualities, and many of the songs have their moments, be it an interesting riff, a slight rasp being added to the vocals or the consistent rhythm section driving the album forward. The fact of the matter is that there are no ‘bangers’ on the album. There are no stand-out tracks that fires up the interest.
Waste a Saint’ssophomore album is ‘solid’, and I hate using that expression to describe an artist’s work. Ravenous have so many missed opportunities on the album that, ultimately, fails to build on the incredible vocals.
Ultimately, it is worth checking out, as I am sure others will utterly disagree with my assessment, but Ravenous will not be forcing its way onto my playlist anytime soon.
