ISLEPTONTHEMOON – Only the Stars Know of My Misfortune
Bindrune Recordings
Released 8 Nov 24

Purveyors of the finest blackened post rock, shoegaze and depressive black metal, Georgia’s ISLEPTONTHEMOON are about to release Only the Stars Know of My Misfortune. You need to be aware of this as, based on my 1st listen, it has a slight hint of great about it.
Only the Stars…. is, perhaps, the most atmospheric album you will hear all year. With excellent use of piano, acoustic and electric guitars as well as clean and genuinely dirty black metal vocals, we are presented with an album that defines its own path. Songs open with introspective thoughtful creativity before expanding into its own space.
Part intriguing, part understated and often displaying utter pain, it is surprising that ISLEPTONTHEMOON haven’t released an album that is difficult to listen to. Instead, tracks like, ‘Maybe I Don’t Know It Yet, But Good Things Are Coming Soon’, have a sense of optimism that betrays the ‘heart-wrenching atmospheric black metal’. The apparent despair that litters the vocals is palpable, but you are still invested in the album. It is not depressing, it is intriguing.
It is a relatively short album, 6 tracks across a little over 33 minutes. You would welcome another couple of tracks, but it is to the credit of ISLEPTONTHEMOON that the album leaves
you wanting more. Each song stands on its own merits, each belonging together and combining in an album that was so interesting that I looked to pre-order the vinyl.
Alas a £16 delivery charge to the UK has put paid to buying direct from their bandcamp site, but I will try to find it elsewhere.
Only the Stars Know of My Misfortune could be an album that slips under the radar of the less discerning metalhead, but it shouldn’t.
This is an incredibly strong album that should only improve with multiple listens.
