The DevilsHorns

Kazea was formed in 2023 and their debut album is called I. Ancestral. Consisting of Jonas Mattsson and Rasmus Lindblom of Orochen and Daniel Olsson, from Hellsongs, they are purveyors of multi-genre music blending elements of sludge, post rock and ‘neo-folk’apparently.

With a bleak overtone, the desolation the album leaves you is palpable. You can feel it. This is augmented by it having a fairly similar song-structure throughout. Each track has a fast-paced section and a contradictory slower pace.

Where the pace is up, the riffs can be interesting, but the tracks verge on the dull when the pace drops.

I. Ancestral is a decent debut but ultimately disappoints.
