Sheev – Ate’s Alchemist
Ripple Music
Released 11 July 25

A truly International band, Sheev are based out of Berlin and Ate’s Alchemist is their 2nd album following up from 2021’s ‘Mind Conductor’. It is a concept album, based on the Greek Goddess of mischief, Ate and her service, the alchemist and is based on how the alchemist crafts the demons Ate instils in humanity.
In creating the album’s storyline, Sheev delve into a rich thematic vein that is explored throughout the 50 minute run time. We have spoken word sections, we have big juicy riffs and a booming bass littered throughout. Vocally, Nitzan Sheps absolutely nails it. With subtle hints of Chris Cornell, high-praise, his delivery is consistently excellent throughout, complementing the Opeth/Mastodon progressive nature of the album.
With what appears to be a relatively dark subject matter, there are moments of intensity that breaks into a welcoming morning. ‘Elephant Trunk’ is perhaps the
truest example of this. The musicality of the song invokes different emotions as it plays out.
‘Tüdelüt’ is another strong track, with the aforementioned juicy riffs to the fore and a heavy bass thumping along. Vocally, superb. Nothing more to say about the vocals here. If you listen to 1 track, ‘Tüdelüt’ is the one.
Or not, maybe listen to Cul de Sac, with its grunge-like feel that fully deserves its run-length. Or maybe try ‘King Mustard II’, the most progressive sounding song with the most Cornell-esque vocals.
Ate’s Alchemist is a musically competent album, and it has moments of extreme excellence that embrace you in its internal glory. Sheev have released a very listenable album.
