Supernaughty – Apocalypso
Ripple Music
Released 22 Aug 25

Apocalypso is the 3rd album proper by Italian riff-slingers Supernaughty. Full of raucous desert/slash stoner fuzz-laden riffs, it a warm glove in a cold winters day when you slide your headphones on and embrace the groove.
Supernaughty are described as being purveyors of ‘sleazy blues rock’ and even, ‘acidic psychedelic fuzz’, but as opening track, ‘Poseidon’ fills the void, the riffs is reminiscent of Swedish rockers Backyard Babies. It explodes in the ears, with vocalist being reminiscent of…. I couldn’t figure it out, but Angelo Fagni sounds like a hundred different voices combined into one. It is a good performance throughout, engaging the listener at all times.
Apocalypso is not extravagant. It does not explore new territory, staying firmly within the genre. Does this lack of experimentation harm the album? The answer is a very firm ‘No’. All 8 tracks delivered across nearly 38 minutes are consistently good. The one criticism is that sometimes the riffs are tonally similar, leading to tracks blending into one another. To be fair, it wasn’t until the 6th track, ‘In(O)culation’, that I noticed it. The previous song, ‘Queen of Babylon’ ended, and it took me a few moments to realise the next had begun. Maybe I was distracted, but it still happened.
Interestingly, I thought Fagni had a bit of Michael Hutchence of 80’s popsters INXS about his style in ‘Queen of Babylon’…
A shout out must go to track 3’s name. ‘Amsterdamned’ has a rumbling bass delivered by Luca Raffoni that is joyous. Filippo Del Bimbo provides an insistent riff that is complemented by the 4th member of the band, drummer Alessio Franceschi, who pounds the skins like the boss! Whilst the song doesn’t match the glory of the track name, it is enjoyable stoner fayre and does get the head bobbing a bit.
Supernaughty have provided a strong, genre album. But not straying from the path may put a few folk off, but not me. If I am up for a bit of fuzzy, riff-laden tracks, Apocalypso will receive multiple listens, not just the #onelistenreview treatment.
Check it out!
