Zatokrev – Bring Mirrors to the Surface
Pelagic Records
Released 29 Aug 25

Swiss post-metal outfit, Zatokrevhave elements of doom, sludge and death metal in their 5th album Bring Mirrors to the Surface. Their first album since 2015’s Silk Spiders Underwater, it explores the consciousness, laying it out in an expansive long-form manner.
Zatokrev are clearly a band who know what they are doing. They know how to deliver ideas into a deliberate, thought-provoking format. Riffs are used to display moods, intensity levels rise and fall and throughout it all, it strives to intrigue.
In an album that is over an hour long, the short-form songs are the ones that excel. They display more intensity, grabbing the listener with ferocious intent. Alas, where the intensity drops, interest also drops. A disappointing correlation.
Bring Mirrors to the Surface has a prohibitive length. If you have the time to delve into it, the album works, but it is not an album to dip in and out of.
