MØL – Dreamcrush

Written by:

It is entirely possible that your album of the year has been released before the end of January. Danish post-black metal outfit, MØL may have achieved this with their 3rd album, Dreamcrush. Quite simply, this is the album you need to have in your life.

Basically, MØL just keep getting better. Jord came out in 2018, and those of us in the know jumped aboard. Diorama raised the bar, a magnificent opus that came out in 2021. Dreamcrush absolutely smashes it out the park. It has been a long 5 years to wait, but no dreams have been crushed with this release.

Just over 44 minutes long, we are presented with 11 top quality tracks that effortlessly slide into your veins like post-black metal heroin. The opening scream on opening track,

‘DREAM’ sets the tone. The juxtaposition of the dirty grunty vocals against the clean vocals provides depth and interest. It is a strong start to the album.

‘Sma° Forlis’ ramps up the metal. It is immediate, black metal is at the forefront, but it continually evolves over its 4 minutes run-time. It is light and dark and the song structure is great.

What is enjoyable to hear are the tracks that are sung in their native Danish. It has as slower tempo, with a luscious guitar tone throughout. Less heavy than most of the album, excepting track 8 (called 8), it is perhaps the most interesting and showcases MØL’s ability to distract the listener in the cleverest way possible.

Dreamcrush is the album of their lives. It could well be their Master of Puppets, helping to define MØL’s sound, the beginning of their true legacy.

I saw a story on Facebook recently, listing bands you should listen to that you don’t know. Dreamcrush should bring MØL to the attention of any discerning metalhead. This album is fire and my vinyl has been pre-ordered.

Buy it early – this is worth it.
