Fejd – Nifelheim

It has been 10 years since Swedish folk metal crew Fejd released their 4th album, but now in 2026, they have returned. Nifelheim is the name of their new album and, as before, it embraces Norse mythology throughout – this mythology is in the DNA of the band, giving the album a true focus.
The album’s title track opens proceedings. Immediately, you are hit with a welcoming embrace as the band invite you to join their war party into a darker realm. The folk element is prominent, Fejd are masters at this and are setting about reclaiming their crown from their rivals.
When the 2nd track, ‘Nidhögg’ begins, you are immediately impressed by the drumming – indeed, throughout the whole of the 8 track, 43 minute long album, the drumming is
exemplary. It helps contain the myriad of instruments used on the album.
Folk metal isn’t for everybody, it is often a unique listening experience. When it is delivered properly, it is captivating. Nifelheim has songs that envelope you, from the catchiness of ‘Strilja’, where my head was bobbing along almost uncontrollably, to my favourite track on the album, the magnificent ‘Älvagrimmar’ with its superb drumming and well-positioned breakdown. Fejd (feud in English), delivers in spades.
All this praise must be tempered with the fact it is restrained by its genre. Nifelheim is potentially more folk than metal, and so the lack of natural aggression in the songs does make it a bit of a ‘mood’ album.
But, if you are in the mood, you will be impressed.
