Überchriist – Dæmonic Apotheosis

Deanwell Global Music

Released 25 Sept 26

A quick apology to Überchriist on the delay of this review – erm…sorry!

Dæmonic Apotheosis is the 2nd album by Atlanta based black metal outfit Überchriist. At just 38 ½ minutes long, the quartet don’t let the 10 tracks hang about. It is fast and ferocious, merging old-school classic black metal with a more modern melodic attack. The result is a fine 1st listen.

Opening track, ‘Anti-Phoenix Descent’, sets the scene – It is immediately catchy (not old-school) but then the black metal kicks in with the superb vocals, dirty grunts you typically associate with the genre. With a sinister melodic approach, you are caught slightly off-guard, which is a very good thing!

There are other strong tracks, to be fair, there are no weak songs, but some stand out. ‘Subterranean Goat Transfiguration’ – a great song title – is one. Here, the vocals are slightly deeper, and the song itself has, dare I say it, a death metal influence imposed on the black metal… sacrilege from the group if you are a 3rd wave of black metal stalwart. Luckily, I’m not and this track is great.

The other stand-out is ‘Pyschocosm’, the closing track. This sees the boys being slightly more restrained, but without losing the omnipresent attack that permeates

throughout Dæmonic Apotheosis. Dark and ominous, the longest track on the album is a beast.

Überchriist have delivered a strong 2nd album. It starts and ends strong, but Dæmonic Apotheosis never loses its edge in the other tracks. It is incredibly consistent, without ever become ‘samey’. It incorporates hints of other genres, bringing in melody, but always having the sinister element black metal requires.

This review may be late to the party, but I shall be giving this a 2nd listen very soon.
